Biofuels increase food prices and hunger levels

Recent talks have called for attention and funding to return to hunger levels across the world, since biofuel research has increased food prices by 83%. World leaders have asked that attention and money be diverted from compulsory fuel targets, and that instead the food crisis is moved to the top of the agenda at the upcoming G8 summit.
World Environment Day 2008

This year World Environment Day was hosted by New Zealand, and the focus was “Kick the CO2 Habit”. The message was to reduce CO2 usage and therefore help with cutting down global warming contributions. It is hoped that individual households will analyse their needs for driving and other carbon-producing activities, and use the day as reminder to do what we can for the environment.
Recycle Week

Early June saw the conclusion of Recycle Week across the UK, designed to increase awareness of recycling amongst individuals and home-owners, and how they might increase the amount of waste recycled and reduce landfill contributions.
This is the fifth year of Recycle Week, and Fridey Cordingley of Recycle Now says everything is going very well,

The recent Recoup conference raised some interesting discussion on the recycling of mixed plastics, and also gave rise to the following prediction from Lee Marshall: “It may taken 10 years but we will see standardisation of collection across the UK.”
Recycle Now week encourages waste recycling

Councils all over the country put on roadshows as part the Recycle Now week this year, giving visitors a chance to see how waste is processed and reused. Experts and council representatives were also on hand to discuss opportunities for residents to cut down on the waste they produce, and how to increase the materials they can recycle.
The week was launched by Denise Van Outen, and other events included a record-attempt and a troup of can-can girls.
