Green waste threatens reserve

Despite being something we are used to encouraging, composting can also threaten our environment it seems. A school in County Durham is making a case to protect a local nature reserve that they use regularly for educational trips and days out, and was granted an award at the 2007 National Teaching Awards ceremony.

New electrical goods waste laws enforced

The new WEEE regulations are being enforced through a series of telephone campaigns, targeting those businesses that have not yet signed up to take responsibility for their electrical waste.
Under the regulations companies are required to ensure their electrical waste goods are disposed of in an environmentally friendly and efficient way, and will be required to foot the bill.
New Biofuel plant planned

A new bio-ethanol and technology demonstration plant is being planned for Hull, supported by Association British Food and DuPont.
Each company involved will be contributing not only funding but their unique specialties in fuel markets, feedstock supplies and biotechnology.

The North West Regional Development Agency and the Forestry Commission are funding a project called Newlands - which aims to restore waste dumping grounds into a thriving woodlands and countryside areas accessible to members of the public as common shared areas.
