CAP fights second waste handling site

An organisation in Boroughbridge called Communities Against Pollution (CAP) is now fighting a second application from a company to set up a waste management plant in their immediate area.

In 2004 a proposal was forwarded by a company to set up two building for the processing of household waste recycling and inert recycling - although this proposal has now been reduced to just one building in order to sidestep the worries that led to the council denying planning permission.

Now a second company has proposed setting up a similar waste transfer and recycling facility 4 miles from the area, and CAP have their work cut out opposing the plans. The stretch of land adjacent to a motorway was rendered useless by the initial roadworks, and remains untouched aside from a few mobile phone masts.

It will be down to the local council to decide whether the facilities will be detrimental to the local community and landscape, or provide much needed recycling capabilities for the surrounding area.
