New WEEE regulations seperate electronic recycling

July 1st sees a new set of regulations for Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE), which will put the price of electronic recycling onto the major producers or importers of the items. They will be expected to pay the fees for responsible disposal or recycling of their goods, and the Environment Agency has reported that most major companies are already signed up.

Options available for the recycling of electronics will be either taking items back to stores, as part of a take-back scheme, or sending items to local recycling facilities. Arrangements in local areas will of course depend on local authorities, but this change in regulations will ensure that basic procedures are put into place in all counties.
